TrainSMART
I-TECH Tanzania adopted TrainSMART, a database system created by I-TECH, to track health care worker (HCW) training, and has integrated TrainSMART with the national Human Resource Information System (HRIS). The TrainSMART system helps to ensure a strong and sustainable national health care system.
Development of Pre-Service and In-Service Training Materials
Other initiatives, such as infection prevention and control; quality improvement; voluntary medical male circumcision; early infant male circumcision; prevention of mother-to-child transmission, family planning, and gender-based violence, Tuberculosis/HIV, sexually transmitted infections; and youth/adolescent reproductive health competencies were integrated into existing pre-service CA/CO and nursing curricula. I-TECH Tanzania has also provided technical assistance (TA) to review the pharmaceutical technician curriculum to address HIV prevention and addiction management among injection drug users .
I-TECH Tanzania has also worked to strengthen distance education programs for HCWs, including integrating the use of mobile technology (tablets) and eLearning for the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children Clinical Assistant to Clinical Officer upgrading program.
Assessment of the Center for Distance Education
I-TECH will work closely with the Center for Distance Education (CDE) to provide technical assistance to support innovative approaches to training of health care providers. Based on the distance learning assessment conducted by I-TECH in 2018, I-TECH Tanzania will provide TA for the implementation of the assessment recommendations to support the ongoing development of continuing education programs offered and operated by the CDE and its ability to develop, deliver, support, and report on distance and e-learning training programs across Tanzania.
