Tools for Working with Youth

During the adolescent years young people form beliefs and behaviours that create the foundation for their adult lives. This is a time of exploration and learning, and youth are particularly interested in social interactions and human sexuality. Education about healthy relational and sexual behaviours can have a life-long impact when introduced during the pre-teen and teen years. For this age group it is especially important to provide relevant, accurate information using fun, interactive activities. These learning moments provide opportunities for youth to discuss new information with peers and ask questions about topics they may be too shy to bring up with their parents or elders.

Use the tools included in this category to design an intervention or discussion group appropriate to the young people you work with, or to guide a discussion with an individual teenager. While the tools are appropriate for 10 to 20-year-olds, some, such as Mopani Junction, Talk Time I and ABC, may be relevant to individuals up to 40 or 45 years of age.
