Description:

ABC presents questions and answers to many topics of interest to youth. The broad range of topics includes relationships, sex, gender and the human body. This book provides the specific, factual information youth seek. In addition, it discusses the values and practises that influence society’s morals and personal behaviour. This book was designed particularly for youth without caregivers or mentors. Teachers, parents and youth workers can also use it as a source of information and conversation points. The book also lists support groups, organisations and crisis lines for youth in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

ABC Testimonial

Parents and nonprofit foundations have both found ABC to be useful in working with teenagers. One mother introduced ABC to her teenage children and found that it began animated discussions within her family about sexual behaviour and HIV. The Child and Law Foundation in Zimbabwe had similar results after they donated ABC books to school clubs dedicated to increasing awareness of HIV/AIDS and other reproductive health issues. The clubs used select topics in the book as a discussion starter during meetings and club members were given books to read on their own. The Foundation noted that students brought new knowledge back to the club meetings, which stimulated discussion and broader learning among all club members. Students found that ABC stimulated lively dialog through encouraging them to question and evaluate their personal beliefs rather than offering definitive answers.
